Bio

Living in the suburbs of Chicago, Ian Barshinger is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter whose recorded music includes aspects of folk, indie, and jazz. Listeners of Norah Jones or John Mayer may like some of his tracks. Ian’s love of music is very broad, and in addition to writing and recording originals or cowritten songs, he likes to play various covers, as well as jazz and classical piano. He enjoys collaborating with others on music projects, whether performing for talent shows or rehearsing with jazz musicians. His debut album, Can I Sit Here Forever, was released in 2024 and features original and cowritten compositions recorded in collaboration with other musicians. In 2025, he released his second record, The Minutes Pass Us By, which shows the maturation of his songwriting.

Starting piano at an early age, Ian Barshinger has appreciated and learned to play other instruments and styles of music since then. In addition to formal instruction in classical and jazz piano and classical violin, he has also picked up guitar, bass, and drums. He enjoys recording and writing music, jamming with other musicians, and playing live, which he has done in his church band, and in various other college concerts.

Ian’s hope is that with his music, he can encourage listeners and give them joy, as well as challenge them with his songs’ lyrics. He is currently pursuing a degree in piano performance at Covenant College in Georgia.
